After a six-year drought, the Miami Dolphins are finally heading back to the playoffs today as they make their way to Buffalo to face the Bills.

It’s been an interesting season for the team who started the season as a strong contender for the AFC East, before hitting a rough patch that left them battling for the final wild card spot in the playoffs. After the Bills defeated the New England Patriots in Week 18, the door was pushed open for the Dolphins to secure their place in the postseason with a win over the New York Jets.

The game might not have been the prettiest, but Miami managed to get the best of their division rivals and will now face off against the Bills for the third time this season. Now, they’ll face off against one of the top teams in the league and they’ll have to do so without the help of their star starting quarterback.

Dolphins starting quarterback against the Bills today

Heading into the Dolphins vs Bills game, there was a lot of uncertainty over who might be suiting up as the starting quarterback for the game. This was due to injuries sustained by the team’s starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and his backup Teddy Bridgewater in the weeks leading up to the playoffs.

While there was hope among fans that Tagovailoa or Bridgewater could be healthy enough to start on Sunday against the Bills, the Dolphins have confirmed that it will be third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson starting for Miami this weekend.

Tagovailoa has once again been ruled out for the game due to the concussion he sustained against the Green Bay Packers, while Bridgewater is healthy enough to serve as Thompson’s backup — just not as the starter.

When was Skylar Thompson drafted by the Dolphins?

Skylar Thompson is in a rare position as he’ll be starting for the Miami Dolphins in their playoff game against the Buffalo Bills after being drafted by the team earlier this year as an intended backup. Thompson joined Miami this spring when the team drafted him with the 26th pick in Round 7 of the NFL draft.

Today’s Super Wild Card Weekend game against the Bills will mark Thompson’s first playoff game and his first playoff game as a starter for the team.
