Everything we know about Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts’ new body-swap movie

Friends alum Jennifer Aniston has said she wants to bring back the rom-com genre, and though we don’t know if this next big project will feature romance just yet, we know it’ll see the 53-year-old going back to her comedic roots.

As reported by Deadline, an upcoming movie will see Aniston star alongside Academy Award winner Julia Roberts, and fans of both actresses are all over this news.

At the time of this writing, Aniston and Roberts’ new comedy is in the very early stages — it doesn’t even have a name yet — but we’re sharing everything we know about it so far to get you readers excited.

So far, we know this exciting project is a comedy, and it will feature a body-swap storyline. I’m thinking Freaky Friday, aren’t you? Maybe Aniston and Roberts will play body-swapping sisters?

There have been plenty of body-swap comedies in the past, also including The Change-Up, Freaky, The Hot Chick, and many more. The premise is definitely a fun one and we can expect the new movie to probably have a silly feel to it — in the best ways.

The new movie will be written and directed by Max Barbakow, best known for his 2020 movie Palm Springs starring Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti. That movie did a great job capturing a lot of emotions, as though it was mainly a comedy, it also got pretty deep and incorporated elements of sci-fi. So maybe his new movie with Aniston and Roberts will have more depth than we initially thought!

Fortunately, a studio for the upcoming movie has already been decided, as Amazon has reportedly won “a heated auction” to buy it. That means we can either expect the project to release in theaters before heading to Amazon Prime Video to stream, or it might go directly to Prime Video. We could see either happening.

When is Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts’ new movie coming out?

Considering Barbakow reportedly just pitched the movie earlier this month, we probably have a long way to go before it’s released. The filmmaker has three other projects in development, according to his IMDb page at least, with two in post-production and one in pre-production. As for the stars, Aniston and Roberts, they’re traditionally booked and busy. Both actresses have projects in development as well.

With all of this said and given the movie has to be written and filmed still, we predict the comedy will probably come out sometime in 2025. Unless Barbakow and the crew start working on it very soon, we don’t see it releasing this year or next. Of course, this is merely a prediction and we could be wrong, so take this with a grain of salt.
