Magic Mike’s Last Dance, the final movie in the Magic Mike franchise, is now playing in theaters. Are the movies based on a true story? How accurate are the events in the Magic Mike movies to Channing Tatum‘s time as a stripper?
The movie series follows Adam, a 19-year-old with big dreams who steps into the business of male stripping. This side job Adam ventured into for extra cash quickly becomes more than he could’ve ever imagined. Magic Mike premiere in 2012, its sequel Magic Mike XXL in 2015, and Magic Mike’s Last Dance is currently playing in theaters.
Are the Magic Mike movies based on a true story?
When the first movie in the series premiered, Channing Tatum shared that the movie is inspired by his time in the business. At the age of 18, Tatum worked as a male stripper. But “inspired by” is very different from “based on a true story.” That said, the Magic Mike movies are not 100% true. In fact, “everything” in the movies is fiction.
Looper shares that, in an interview, Tatum said “everything that happens is fictional.” Tatum wanted the freedom to create his own story for the movie and that “none of the characters are based on real people.”
How do you feel about the movies not being based on Tatum’s early days? The Magic Mike movies are still wildly popular.
