We were NOT expecting that in All American Season 5, Episode 11. There’s a major character coming out of the show. Was that death for real?

Things have been rough for a few episodes right now. Billy’s decision to take the coaching job caused problems for Spencer. It wasn’t really that Billy ended up taking the job; it was the circumstances around it. Spencer has been struggling with his thoughts and feelings for a while with Billy, Olivia, and Jordan.

We knew more time was needed to develop all these storylines and give Spencer time to figure everything out. That meant the storyline at the end of All American Season 5, Episode 11 was a huge shock.

Billy, Asher, and a few others were on a school bus when it crashed. Things looked fine to start with, but everything took a turn at the very end. First responders struggled to get to the scene, but it looked like everyone was walking-wounded. They just needed to stay warm as the sun went down.

What happened in the crash in All American Season 5, Episode 11?

After the crash, Grace suggested Billy call Laura. Everyone heard about it on the news, and that included Laura and Olivia. Spencer was there at the time, so he heard that everyone was okay.

That was until the end. Billy realized that one of the high school students was still in the bus, a bus that looked like it could go over the edge of a cliff at any point. Billy couldn’t leave the student behind, despite Grace telling him not to go in. We’re left to assume that the bus went over the edge with Billy inside. Grace and Jordan break the news while the voicemail plays.

I don’t usually like deaths that happen off-screen, but this one worked. Usually, a death off-screen means that it can be faked, but I don’t expect that to be the case here. Taye Diggs has confirmed that he is leaving the series so that death really happened.

Spencer’s phone had been off the whole time. When he turned it on, he got a voicemail Billy left him. Billy explained that Spencer had been right all along, but Billy wanted to be Spencer’s coach one last time. It was such a bittersweet moment considering everything that happened, and this death leaves so much open now. That’s life, though, right? Not everything in life is wrapped up in a neat bow.
