* Spoilers for All American season 5 episode 11 below
All American fans, how are you doing? We definitely were not expecting that shocker! But here we are in the aftermath of season 5 episode 11, “Time,” where we’ve lost a beloved character.
In a surprising turn of events, one of the show’s central personalities, Billy Baker, has passed away. The actor who portrays the football coach has been with the series since the very first episode. So why was Taye Diggs written off? This was the star’s choice as he felt ready to move on from the show to explore other opportunities.
When a series has been going on for a long time, this is a pretty common feeling among actors. And with their jobs, most of them like the thrill of being able to embody different characters. So really, Diggs’ reasoning is not a surprising one. But that doesn’t mean we’re not going to miss him and Billy!
When major cast exits come along, that sometimes signals the end of a production. Is that going to be the case here? We’ve got the answer for you below!
Is All American season 5 the last?
Don’t worry All American fans! The sports drama is not coming to an end just yet. We’ve already had confirmation that the series would be coming back for another season. In January 2023, The CW announced it was giving the show an early renewal. So buckle in! All American will be back for season 6.
In the press release, the network shared that the last season was the company’s top linear series, as well as the most-watched on digital and other platforms. That’s why The CW saw it fit to bring the show back. Season 6 will be a part of the 2023-2024 broadcast season.
With the loss of Billy on the show, where does that leave the story going forward? Episode 12, appropriately named “Lost One,” will see both the Beverly Hills and Crenshaw communities come together after the unexpected loss, per the synopsis.
All American season 5 airs episodes Monday nights on The CW. The drama has already been renewed for a season 6.
