Criminal Minds: Evolution had a successful 10-episode run after debuting on Paramount+. After an amazing season, we’re looking forward to seeing what’s next for the BAU and their loved ones as they continue to tackle the aftermath of the Sicarius case, plus taking on new cases as well. Before the next season begins, who can we expect to see returning and who’s going on Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2?

If you recall, Criminal Minds: Evolution season 1 involved the search for the leader of a serial killer network who managed to manipulate those around him to hide his true persona. Eventually, it all caught up to him as David Rossi discovered his identity and tried to put a stop to his reign of terror.

With Elias Voit now in custody, it means the BAU can move forward. However, there is still the matter of the cliffhanger that made it clear the door is open to seeing Voit again. So who will we be saying goodbye to and who will return from season 2?

Who’s leaving Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2?

The season finale of Criminal Minds: Evolution saw us saying goodbye to a character we all loathed but grew to love by the end. Deputy Director Doug Bailey lost his life, so we likely won’t get to see him on screen, but he was a big part of the arc involving Gold Star.

At the moment, it is up in the air whether we will see Nicholas D’Agosto back as Deputy Director Scott Bailey. While we won’t get the character back in the present day, there is always a chance we will get flashbacks involving his role in the elusive Gold Star that was teased in the season 1 finale.

Who is returning to Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2?

The entire BAU will be back for another round of crime solving when the show returns. All of the regular cast members who appeared in season 1 will be back for the second season. As Hidden Remote previously mentioned, the only two cast members who are up in the air in terms of involvement are Daniel Henney and Matthew Gray Gubler.

Their characters, Spencer Reid and Matt Simmons, were said to be on classified assignments. Whether they were related to Gold Star is unknown, but we would love to see them again. However, according to showrunner Erica Messer, having a shorter season also involves a shorter period of time to film. So with the actors in other projects, they may be unavailable but there has been no confirmation or denial that they won’t be involved, so we’ll keep you updated if they are due to make an appearance.

Another character set to return is Tyler Green, played by Ryan-James Hatanaka. He’s been a very polarizing character, especially in terms of those rooting for Luke Alvez and Penelope Garcia. It looks like we’ll be in for one interesting triangle.

We’ll make sure to keep an eye out for updates as filming for Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 gets closer! Let us know in the comments below who you’re excited to see returning. Catch up on the season 1 on Paramount+.
