Tom Hanks is one of the most recognized and talented actors in the industry. The critically acclaimed actor has starred in numerous feature films. Throughout his career, Hanks has been nominated for an award 136 times. But how many of these did he win and how many of his wins are Academy Awards? Let’s have a look!

It’s Academy Awards season, movie buffs! This is a time to re-watch (or watch for the first time) the movies that have been nominated for the most prestige award in film. Who has been nominated this year?

In the year 2022, Tom Hanks starred in Elvis as Colonel Tom Parker, in Pinocchio as Geppetto, and as Otto Anderson in A Man Called Otto. Unfortunately, as brilliant as Hanks is in these roles, the actor is not among the nominees at the upcoming Academy Awards. The film Elvis did receive a lot of praise, including eight Oscar nominations. But these are for Austin Butler for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Best Picture, among other. Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio is also nominated for Best Animated Feature Film.

Oscar wins: How many does Tom Hank have?

Tom Hanks has been nominated for an Oscar six times:

  •  Big (1989)
  • Philadelphia (1994)
  • Forrest Gump (1995)
  • Saving Private Ryan (1999)
  • Cast Away (2001)
  • A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2020)

Out of these six nominations, Hanks took home an Oscar for Best Actor for Philadelphia and Forrest Gump. If you were thinking Tom Hanks had more Oscar wins under his belt, I agree with you! After all, he is the voice of Sheriff Woody in the Toy Story movies. An icon. Other memorable performances from Tom Hanks, include The Money Pit, Sleepless in Seattle, and Captain Philips, among many, many more.

The 95th Academy Awards air on March 12 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. The event will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
