The West Coast Conference tournament comes to a close on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. During the regular season, the Saint Mary’s Gaels and Gonzaga Bulldogs were co-champions of the WCC with identical records (14-2).

Saint Mary’s and Gonzaga split the season series and both lost to Loyola Marymount Lions, but Saint Mary’s won the tiebreaker (NET ranking) and was the No. 1 overall see in the WCC tournament. The Zags were the No. 2 seed. Each team earned byes into the semifinals of the WCC tournament. Saint Mary’s beat the BYU Cougars in the first semifinal, while Gonzaga bested the San Francisco Dons to earn their place in the title game.

In the first meeting of the season between the Zags and Gaels, Gonzaga led most of the way, but a late burst by Aidan Mahaney forced overtime. The Gaels won overtime and won the game 78-70. In the second meeting, Drew Timme and the Zags dominated the first half and held off another comeback by the Gaels to win 77-68.

What time is Saint Mary’s vs. Gonzaga in the WCC Championship?

The Gaels and Zags meet for the third and likely final time of the season in the WCC tournament championship game at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
