The Yellowjackets season 1 finale left us with more questions than we were expecting. The acclaimed series debuted back in Nov. 2021 and really exploded in popularity, keeping fans guessing and theorizing on Reddit week to week. The premiere season sprinkled in so many creepy teases that we couldn’t help but dissect, but now that it’s all over, we’re looking ahead to what’s next. Yellowjackets season 2 is almost here!

Yellowjackets follows a high school girls’ soccer team in the 1990s who experience a plane crash while on their way to a national tournament. The group is stranded for 19 months, though we don’t get a linear timeline of their survival. Instead, we get parallels between the 1990s and present day, where the ladies who made it out alive are still being haunted by what they did.

If you’re into thrillers that’ll make you think, Yellowjackets is definitely for you.

So what’s next for Yellowjackets? Fortunately, this isn’t the end of the story and the second season is just days away!

Yellowjackets season 2 release date and release time

Showtime confirmed that Yellowjackets season 2 will premiere on streaming this Friday, March 24, 2023 at 12:01 a.m. ET, and then on linear this Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 9:00 p.m. ET. That means if you’re streaming the show on the Showtime site or app, or Paramount Plus with the Showtime add-on, you can watch the season 2 premiere this Friday. If you’re watching the show with Showtime on cable, you’ll have to wait until Sunday evening.

Like the first season, episodes will be released weekly.

In Dec. 2021, it was announced that Yellowjackets season 2 was green-lit. This was a pleasant surprise for fans, considering the first season was only through five episodes at the time. Showtime’s President of Entertainment Gary Levine spoke to Deadline about the renewal, where he confirmed the writers would come together in January 2022 to start working on season 2. In Dec. 2022, Yellowjackets season 3 was announced!

Is Jackie (Ella Purnell) in Yellowjackets season 2?

Fans wouldn’t expect to see Ella Purnell return as Jackie, as we finally saw how she died in the season 1 finale. She could, of course, always appear in flashbacks, and there are a few clues that have us believe she might. Purnell has talked about the second season of Yellowjackets and even confirmed when shooting was to begin. The actress has, of course, remained tight-lipped.

Based on a photo from Yellowjackets season 2, Screen Rant predicted the survivors out in the wilderness might eat Jackie’s body once they get hungry enough. The show has hinted at cannibalism but hasn’t shown it yet, so this theory is not outside of the realm of possibility.

Yellowjackets season 1 ending explained

One criticism of the Yellowjackets season 1 finale might be that it really didn’t answer that many questions. It seemed as though each episode was adding more hints to lead up to a grand finale, but we didn’t get that. We found out how Jackie died and got a big cliffhanger in the end, but other than that, there’s still a lot for us to find out.

The season 1 finale ends with present-day Nat putting a gun in her mouth ready to end her life, but before she can pull the trigger, she’s kidnapped by a group of people wearing that mysterious symbol. As the episode comes to an end, we hear a very concerned Suzie leaving Nat a voicemail where she asks who Lottie Matthews is. This suggests the grownup Lottie has something to do with Travis’ death.

Season 2 will (hopefully) confirm how Travis really died, what happened to Shauna’s baby, if the girls really resorted to cannibalism out in the woods, and explain what the opening scene of season 1 is all about. We’re going to keep theorizing until season 2 premieres, and hopefully, the next installment is a bit more revealing than season 1. They’re playing the long game here, so fingers crossed it pays off.
