Did The Winchesters get renewed? (Is The Winchesters season 2 happening?)

Update: May 11, 2023 – Deadline reports The Winchesters has been canceled. The show is in the process of being shopped in the hopes of being picked up on another platform.

We’re getting closer and closer to the May Upfronts. It’s the time for the networks to make final decisions. Is The Winchesters Season 2 happening?

Final decisions will be made about the 2022–2023 slate of shows in May. The CW has left a lot on the bubble, which has come due to the Nexstar takeover earlier in the TV season. All eyes are on whether our favorite shows will be canceled or renewed, and the Supernatural prequel is on the list for a lot of people.

Has this series landed a renewal? The Winchesters Season 1 finale aired back in March, bringing us an explanation of why canon had changed so much. It certainly made sense, and we loved the cameos. The ending did leave things open enough to continue the story, but also closed enough to work as a series finale if necessary.

Will The Winchesters Season 2 happen at The CW?

As of writing this, The CW has not decided on the fate of the Supernatural prequel. The only show to land a renewal has been All American. All other shows are either canceled (airing their final seasons) or on the bubble.

Drake Rodgers talked about the lack of decision and the fate of the show recently. He shared that Jensen Ackles gave some great advice in handling the situation. It’s out of the shows’ and actors’ control. There’s no need to worry about it. What happens, happens.

Why has The CW left so many shows on the bubble this year? It does come down to the deal with Nexstar. The network has been running a deficit for so long with its syndication plan. With the takeover, Nexstar made it clear that only a handful of shows would be renewed. At one point, the company said only a couple of shows would make it through. Walker is better in the live ratings that The Winchesters, which could see that one saved instead.

However, for the network, The Winchesters did pretty well. If this was a normal year, the show would have been renewed by now.
