When does Doctor Who return in 2023?

It’s almost time for the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who. We’ll get David Tennant back for a while, and then we’ll see the next transition. When will the new episodes of Doctor Who air in 2023?

We’re are certainly ready for the return of Doctor Who. During the last special, we saw Jodie Whittaker’s regeneration into someone we didn’t quite expect. Despite learning that Ncuti Gatwa would take on the role of the new Doctor, he wasn’t the one to show up at the very end of the episode.

It was all about the return of David Tennant. This was always plausible considering we knew he was going to be in the 60th anniversary special. There were just always questions of how David Tennant would come back—and it’s not like we haven’t seen multiple regenerations around at the same time!

Doctor Who 2023 return date

Well, the 14th Doctor is David Tennant, and we’ll get to see him in action very soon. Deadline reports that the 60th anniversary will be a three-episode special airing in November 2023. A set date hasn’t been provided yet, but November makes a lot of sense as Nov. 23 is the anniversary date.

Gatwa will become the 15th Doctor at some point toward the end of the special or at the start of his special. That is going to air over the holiday season. Whittaker’s years were all New Year’s Day specials, but there is talk of moving back to Christmas Day specials now that Russell T. Davis is back as showrunner.

Details of the 60th anniversary and holiday specials are being kept quiet. We know Catherine Tate and Bernard Cribbins will be with David Tennant. Yes, Cribbins filmed the episodes before his death. Neil Patrick Harris and Yasmin Finney have also landed roles in the show.
