Who plays Onomatopoeia on Superman and Lois?

Spoilers ahead of Superman and Lois season 3

The third season of Superman and Lois has established two main villains–Lois’ battle with cancer and the two sided front she and Clark are waging against Bruno Mannheim. The former isn’t something they can combat with the powers of Superman or Lois’ brilliance, and it’s understandably been hard on them and their family as they do what they can to win this fight.

As for Bruno, he’s got resources on his side as well as Onomatopoeia, his super-powered ally whose abilities include disruption via cacophony, vocalized attacks, and voice manipulation. The first few episodes of the season shrouded Onomatopoeia in mystery, but we finally have an answer to who Bruno’s ally is, and by that token, who plays the character.

Who plays Onomatopoeia on Superman and Lois?

Season 3, episode 6, “Of Sound Mind,” reveals Peia, Lois’ friend from the hospital who’s also going through chemotherapy, is the one working with Bruno. She’s been helping him with his experiments and getting rid of the evidence (even through means of murder) in order to keep their special project under wraps.

The series has yet to make clear what her relationship to Bruno is, but they’re close to one another considering his demeanor around her is caring and he’s willingly open about what he’s been up to in his bid to cure her cancer.

The actress who plays Peia, Daya Vaidya, is a cancer survivor herself and her life experience has played a role in her approach for the character. In an interview with comicbook.com she had the following to say:

"We’re already dealing with all these levels of is she really a villain? How is she a villain? She’s trying to save her life. Bruno Mannheim’s trying to save her life. What is the villain and what is the person just trying to live? I really like to play with these levels because my dad had cancer. I had cancer. When you’re trying to save your life, there’s not a lot you won’t do. I really wanted to play with that idea of how far I would go to be here for my child, be here. I think that when you look at it from that perspective, it makes it really fuzzy."

Prior to her turn on Superman and Lois, Vaidya starred in the TV series The Black Hamptons  Bosch, General Hospital, and Unforgettable.
