The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon brings the laughs along with fun celebrity interviews from Monday to Friday on NBC. Viewers look forward to the various segments Jimmy Fallon conducts with his guests as he listens to them promote their various projects and gets them to let loose in his playful challenges. Fans enjoy the program, it’s a late night staple on NBC. However, there’s been a scheduling shake-up thanks to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike.

If you aren’t familiar with what’s going on in Hollywood, the WGA did not reach an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, the organization that represents the various studios, networks, streamers, and motion picture and TV producers who are responsible for making and distributing the content we tune into on a daily basis. As such the WGA’s contract lapsed and it triggered a strike.

The issue at the crux of the dispute is fair compensation. Despite companies continuing to make money and more being invested into the creation of content, there has not been an increase in pay for writers that keeps pace with this growth. Instead there have been pay cuts with the transition to streaming which the WGA has stated has led to “worsening working conditions for series writers at all levels.”

How does this impact The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon? Here’s what we know!

Is The Tonight Show new tonight?

No, there won’t be a new episode that airs on NBC tonight. The series has decided to stand in solidarity with the strikers. TVLine reports that Fallon said the following to Variety about the strike on Monday, May 1:

"Yeah, I think we’ll go dark. Whatever I can do to support the guild. I’m actually in the Writers Guild as well. I couldn’t do the show without them, and I support my whole staff."

So this was the plan and a decision that had all but been settled on.

Is The Tonight Show new tomorrow?

Likely not. This is an indefinite suspension of new episodes. While The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon may not be off for weeks, if the strike continues for that long, there’s no indication on when the late night talk show will return with new content.
