The time has come for the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall to become King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla. Even though long-reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September 2022, the official coronation ceremony is happening this Sunday, May 6, 2023. With the tensions between the royals and Sussex’s, will Harry and Meghan be at the historic event?
The coronation will be broadcast on most of the U.S. major channels including CBS, ABC, FOX, and CNN on Saturday. The live coverage on all the networks begins at 5 a.m. ET, with the ceremony starting at 6 a.m. ET, which is 11 a.m. in the morning in Britain. Will you be watching?
The two-hour ceremony will feature the King’s prayer, receiving of the Coronation Bible, and the ride from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey where the newly appointed royal will receive his crown. There’s also a concert, with American Idol judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie will be taking a short break from their duties to perform. Taking their place during the competition series’ live show, where the Top 8 become the Top 5, are Alanis Morissette and Ed Sheeran.
Of course there’s the celebrities who have been invited and plan to witness the event, but plenty of the Royal Family will be in attendance as well. Will the Duke and Duchess of Sussex be there? We’ve got the answer for you below!
Are Harry and Meghan going to be at King Charles’ coronation?
Prince Harry will be attending his father, King Charles’, coronation ceremony. However, his wife Meghan will be staying in their home in California with the kids. This was confirmed by Buckingham Palace and shared by CBS News. The palace told the news outlet in a statement:
Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Harry’s book, Spare, was released in January 2023. In it, he details the rising tensions between his father and brother William, Prince of Wales. The familial disagreements were one of the big reasons why Harry and Meghan left the U.K., which resulted in the monarchy taking away their royal titles. The coronation ceremony will be the first time the three meet in person since the book’s release.
