9 new Netflix movies and shows to watch this week (May 8)
By Ricky Valero
Insert a bad dad joke here that I was going to tell you, but I am old and forgot the joke. Like we do each and every week, we’re sharing all the new Netflix movies and shows debuting beginning the week of May 8, 2023.
After one of the lightest weeks in recent memory, Netflix has come out guns blazing with a large slate of shows and movies. From a brand new stand-up special to a show produced by Jada Pinkett Smith to the latest season of a popular reality series to a brand new movie featuring J-Lo kicking ass, Netflix isn’t playing around this week.
New Netflix movies and shows to watch this week
- Hannah Gadsby: Something Special, May 9
- Queen Cleopatra, May 10
- Dance Brothers, May 10
- Missing: Dead or Alive?, May 10
- Royalteen: Princess Margrethe, May 10
- Ultraman, May 11
- Black Knight, May 12
- The Mother, May 12
- Queer Eye Season 7, May 12
Netflix’s biggest release of the week is The Mother, which follows a deadly assassin (Jennifer Lopez) who comes out of hiding to protect her daughter she gave up years ago while being on the run. Look, I watched the trailer, and when you give me Jennifer Lopez in a role where she gets to kick ass and take names, understand I will be seated. I truly can’t wait for this movie.
The other release I am looking forward to is the stand-up comedy special Hannah Gadsby: Something Special. This is Gadsby’s third special with Netflix which was filmed at the iconic Sydney Opera House and features their telling jokes about their wedding, a traumatic encounter with a bunny, and more. I think we are in for a good time.
From our suggestions, what will you be watching? Are you excited about the seventh season of Queer Eye? Or will you be checking out The Mother with me? Let us know, and let’s hope next week brings us more Netflix additions.
