Has American Idol been renewed on ABC? (Is it coming back in 2024?)

If you’re here, that means American Idol is your favorite competition series on TV. And we definitely can’t blame you. It’s our favorite too! With the season finale coming up, we’re wondering whether the ABC series has been renewed for another season.

The American Idol three-hour finale is set to air Sunday, May 21, 2023 on the network! It begins at 8 p.m. ET and there’s lots in store. We’re going to see the Top 3 – Colin Stough, Iam Tongi, and Megan Danielle – perform one more time on the Idol stage for our live votes at home before one person is crowned the winner.

The musically-packed episode also features Keith Urban, who is on board to mentor the three finalists and giving us a performance. Also taking the stage are Ellie Goulding, Pitbull, James Blunt, TLC, our three judges, this season’s Top 12, and more!

Has American Idol been renewed on ABC? (Is American Idol coming back in 2024?)

Good news! Ahead of the season finale, the broadcaster has already announced that American Idol has been renewed on ABC and will return in 2024. This marks the show’s seventh season on ABC and the 22nd overall. According to Deadline, the series brings in around 5.2M viewers on Sunday nights and 4.7M on Monday evenings. We’re definitely not surprised! In the last four years, the show has premiered in February, so perhaps a February 2024 date will happen. Stay tuned for an official premiere date.

Are the same American Idol judges returning?

At the time of this writing on May 16, 2023, we don’t know if Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan will return to the judge the contestants on the singing series. However, that’s no cause for worry! The judges, as well as host Ryan Seacrest, usually negotiate their contracts in the summer. So we’ll find out in just a few months. The four have such great chemistry, we’re hoping they all choose too come back!

Are American Idol auditions open?

If you’re ready to shoot your shot, American Idol online video auditions are now open. That means you can record a video of yourself singing and send it to producers. Virtual auditions and in-person audition dates have not been announced yet. Check the American Idol Auditions page for updates!
