The Little Mermaid 2023 Ursula actress

Melissa McCarthy is the stellar actress who will play the live-action version of Ursula!

McCarthy’s range includes comedy and drama, as she has starred in titles like Bridesmaids, Gilmore Girls, and Charlie’s Angels. To that end, you can be sure that she’ll perfectly capture the personality and behavior of the iconic villain! And the best part is, McCarthy agrees, too!

In her exclusive interview with People Magazine, McCarthy expressed her eagerness to play Ursula and how she “begged” to play one of the best characters in the film.

"I threw myself in front of [Rob Marshall, The Little Mermaid‘s director] car and begged him. I didn’t really, but I did beg him to talk to me. That part’s true. I’ve spent more time with Little Mermaid than probably any other movie, which I didn’t really think about until Rob’s like, ‘Did you see this a few times?’ I’m like, ‘Well, [now that] you ask me, I’ve seen it a weird amount of times. Which could have frightened him. Luckily it didn’t."

McCarthy recounted the many times she watched the film and found Ursula to be one of the characters she was most fond of. She expressed:

"I loved her so much. She’s such a broad, I just wanted to have a drink with her. And yes, she’s the villain, but I was like, I think I get her. She’s been ostracized. Especially after Covid, I think we all get Ursula a little bit more. Spending all that time alone. I just thought she was funny. And I love that it was about this young woman who was just trying to figure out what she wanted."

Melissa McCarthy adores Ursula and understands the character to a great degree. With all things considered, she was born to play this role! Hopefully you’ll feel the same!
