Beat Shazam: Why Nick Cannon and Kelly Osbourne are the new host and DJ

Beat Shazam is back but with a new look. Jamie Fox and his daughter Corinne are no longer the host and DJ of this music game show, with a new pair taking over. Why is that and who are the new hosts?

Debuting in 2017, Beat Shazam is a spin on an old game show format. Three teams of two players compete in four to five rounds on how quickly they can identify a song. The last two teams then go up against the Shazam app to identify six songs before the app can, with the winners getting a million-dollar prize.

The show has been a hit for five seasons thanks to Foxx’s great banter with guests and daughter Corinne serving as the DJ for songs. There’s also been a great selection of guest stars, many of them Foxx’s A-list friends showing up to support the show.

However, just as Season 6 was about to start taping, Foxx was hospitalized in April while filming his new movie Back in Action. Foxx hasn’t detailed what his illness was but is still recovering and claiming to be okay. Naturally, this has led him to step back from hosting Beat Shazam, with Corinne wishing to stay and help her ailing father.

So who is taking over for the new series?

Stepping in for Foxx is his old friend Nick Cannon. He’s no stranger to hosting gigs, from Wild N Out to America’s Got Talent and The Masked Singer, so is capable of taking up the role easily.

On the DJ slot is Kelly Osbourne, daughter of legendary heavy metal rocker Ozzy Osbourne and a capable figure to pick the songs.

Speaking to US Weekly, Osbourne talked of how much she enjoyed taking on this new role until Foxx and his daughter return.

"“It’s such an honor to be asked to step in keep the seat warm while Corinne is away. It made me very nervous because she’s so beautiful and so good at what she does. I was like, ‘Can I even do this?’ But the best part of this show — what makes it so incredible — is that just doing music can change your life because they win so much money. I saw so much money being made and it was, like, beautiful to see how these people’s lives just changed in an instant.”"

While fans can hope for a quick return for Foxx and his daughter, at least they have a great substitute as Beat Shazam returns.
