The 1985 epic The Color Purple has been remade and will be released in theaters this December! The original movie received 11 nominations at the 1986 Academy Awards.

The Color Purple (2023) is directed by Blitz Bazawule from a screenplay written by Marcus Gardley. The film stars Fantasia Barrino as Celie Harris Johnson, Phylicia Mpasi as young Celie Harris Johnson, Taraji P. Henson as Shug Avery, Danielle Brooks as Sofia, Colman Domingo as Albert “Mister” Johnson, Ciara as Nettie Harris, and Halle Bailey as young Nettie Harris.

The remake is expected to be released in theaters on December 25, 2023. We’ll keep you posted if there are plans for a simultaneous streaming release.
