The Citadel season 1 finale left us wanting more from this twisting spy thriller that upends the plot every episode. When we began this journey with Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh, they were former lovers who had crossed paths again on a train where they were conducting a mission. As they fought their target and his henchmen, they learned they’d been betrayed and the train blew up. In an effort to safeguard their agency’s security, the two were Backstopped and their memories were erased.

In the eight years since that mission, they’d gone on to live separate lives, in separate countries unaware that the other even existed. Then Bernard found Mason, pulled him out of the life he was living as Kyle Conroy, loving father and husband, and thrust him into a high octane adventure with serious consequences for the world. It also reunited him with Nadia, who unlike him, regained her memories early on in the first season.

Over the course of six episodes, the audience was let it on Mason and Nadia’s love story, Manticore’s goals as channeled through the Big Bad Dahlia Archer, and Mason’s past which set this whole story in motion. Now the second season of the series is on everyone’s minds as we wait for more of this thrilling story. Here’s what we know.

Does Citadel season 2 have a release date?

No. Season 2 doesn’t have a release date or window for that matter. After the season 1 finale, footage of Citadel: Diana, the Italian spin-off in the planned global franchise, was shown. That series is set to premiere in 2024. It’s possible that the flagship will premiere its sophomore season after the Italian series debuts. As such it could make its return sometime later in 2024 or even in 2025. We’ll keep you posted.

Is Citadel season 2 filming?

According to Town & Country, production isn’t underway yet. Season 2 is set to film in California, but given the writers strike which has caused films and television series to halt filming, in some cases until the strike ends, there could be production delays or suspensions.

Citadel season 2 plot

A synopsis has been released, however, season 1 ended with Mason regaining his memories and learning that he’s the one who betrayed Citadel. He also knows that Dahlia Archer is his mother, and he gave Citadel up because she said would hold them accountable for his father’s death by taking the information to a UK high court for an investigation to be launched. Instead she decided to decimate the spy agency in a bid for revenge.

With his memories, Mason’s aware that he’s still married to Nadia and that they have a daughter named Asha. However, he’s also married to Abby, who was once a spy for the agency that he Backstopped in order to protect Nadia, and they share a daughter named Hendrix. To make things more complicated, no one but Mason and Dahlia knows that he was the mole that cost the agency everything.

When the series picks back up again in season 2, the team will likely start trying to track down Dahlia. She faked her death to get Manticore off her tail, but season 1 ended before we learned of Bernard’s whereabouts. She needed him, and her vendetta still isn’t done even if she has to adapt to keep going in this long war she’s initiated.
