What is the Age of Influence on Hulu about?

A new series coming to Hulu is focusing on influencers and how their rise to fame also can come with crushing downfalls. With six episodes focusing on various influencers who have popped on the scene, what is Age of Influence about?

The documentary series from Disney’s ABC News Studios aims to focus the series on how influencer culture also has a dark side that has caused some scandals.

These often include how these influencers can actually bring about various cons and how their actions can also lead to a call for that particular influencer to be canceled.

In a statement, head of ABC News Studios Mike Kelley, said of the venture that its goal was to bring together “investigative journalism with true crime, pop culture, and social media.”

What is The Age of Influence on Hulu about?

The full synopsis on the Hulu website details how the series “examines the dark side of influencer culture through some of the biggest social media scandals of our time. From sweeping cons to viral cancellation campaigns, watch as these taste-makers become caught in the controversial crosshairs of their own curated online worlds.”

Many of the influencers featured in the six-episode series reached fame before living in infamy, such as Machelle Hobson, whose seemingly picture perfect Youtube life featuring her adoptive children actually hid abuse behind the scenes.

Another episode will focus on a con artist named Tracii Hutsona, who tried to find fame but went so far as to go after a basketball star’s ex-wife.

The summary of episode four, “The Steroids Swindler,” will focus on a man named Tyler Baumann. He’s a bodybuilder who seeks to reinvent “himself as the juice-head influencer ‘Musclehead 320’ and becomes the face of his own steroid empire.”

One name you might recognize is Anna Delvey, whose story was told in Netflix’s Inventing Anna starring Julia Garner.

While some of these names may not be familiar to most people, influencer culture is fascinating to watch and dive into. The Hulu series will debut on Monday, June 5.
