Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is in theaters and promising a big adventure for Spider-Man fans. But get ready for a long experience as this film is going to match some live-action MCU movies in terms of running time.

Comic book fans (especially Marvel ones) have gotten used to some long run times on movies. A standard MCU film runs over two hours, with the longest being Avengers: Endgame at just over three hours. That’s a long stretch to sit in a theater, but it can be expected for a live-action experience.

Generally, animated movies run far less time, with some clocking in at just an hour and a half. The original Into the Spider-Verse film was one hour and forty minutes, which is a standard running time for an animated film.

So with the sequel here, just how long will fans be expected to wait in the theater for the full experience?

How long is Spider-Man: Across the Universe?

According to official reports, Across The Spider-Verse clocks in at a total of 2 hours and 16 minutes (including credits). That’s on par with live-action MCU movies and over a half hour longer than the previous film.

It appears the longer time is simply because of the story of a vast multiverse of Spider-characters forming together. It’d be hard to pack that all into an hour and a half, especially with character development. It should be remembered the plan was always for the two sequels to be split up, so likely this is dividing a bigger storyline.

This may lead to speculation the planned sequel, Beyond the Spider-Verse, could be even longer. As it stands, fans better be ready to get a bathroom break in early to see all of Across the Spider-Verse.
