Netflix’s Monster is ready to continue its new takes on famous killings. Season 2 will focus on the infamous Mendez Brothers murder, and it looks like they’ve found their stars. Here’s what else we know about the new season!

Monster became a sensation in season 1, focusing on Jeffrey Dahmer, who gained infamy when he was arrested in 1991 for a murder spree where he ate his victims. Dying in prison in 1994, Dahmer has been the focus of several movies and TV shows since.

Yet this series, produced by Ryan Murphy, became notable for Evan Peters offering a sympathetic viewpoint for Dahmer while exploring the police incompetence that let him get away with his crimes. It earned four Golden Globe nominations, with Peters winning one.

Now season 2 has announced its plot and who will star in it.

What is Monster season 2 about?

Season 2 focuses on Erik and Lyle Menendez, who in 1989, brutally killed their rich parents, Jose and Mary Louise “Kitty,” with shotguns. The trial was a national story as the boys claimed they were acting out of trauma from long-term abuse, while the prosecution said they were just after their parent’s fortune.

In the end, the brothers were convicted and sentenced to life without parole. Since then, the two have been the subject of numerous documentaries and fictional takes. Chief among them was 2017’s Law & Order: True Crime The Menendez Murder, starring Edie Falco as defense attorney Leslie Abramson.

Monster season 2 cast

Per Deadline, the series has cast Cooper Koch (Power Book II: Ghost) as Erik and Nicholas Alexander Chavez (General Hospital) as Erik. There’s no word yet on further castings, as the season is still under development.

When does Monster Season 2 come out?

The series is set for release in 2024. However, like all productions, it’s likely to be delayed due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike that prevents Murphy from commenting on it. Still, it should be interesting to see this take on such a famous true crime event coming to life, as only Murphy can do it.

Monster season 1 is streaming on Netflix.
