The Rookie: Feds, which is a spin-off of The Rookie, was a welcome addition to the 2022 fall TV lineup on ABC. The police procedural aired its season 1 finale in May 2023, and since then we’ve been wondering if a second season is happening. Has the show been canceled?

The first season ended with the Feds director getting the help of Garza’s unit to investigate the attempted death of a FBI agent after he was drugged and buried alive. Also, Simone is adamant about celebrating her 49th birthday, making it a big deal since her mom never reached that age before passing. By the end of the episode, our central character gets shot, but thankfully is wearing a bullet proof vest and she’s fine. Though she does miss her birthday party.

So we didn’t end on a huge cliffhanger, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to see more of the series. So what’s the deal with the spin-off? Is a second season in the works or not? We’ve go the answer for you below!

The Rookie: Feds season 2 release updates: Has the show been canceled?

At the time of this writing on July 20, 2023, The Rookie: Feds season 2 has not been canceled or renewed. According to TVLine, the chances of it coming back for more are “50/50.” So what does that mean?

ABC is kind of holding the show and cast in limbo. The network still doesn’t know if it’s worth bringing the police procedural back for a season 2, and at the same time it still has a “contractual hold” on the main cast members. So the company hasn’t let the series go just yet.

With the writers strike and the actors strike delaying productions that have already been renewed, it’s hard to say what ABC will decide right now. Though when the series first premiered, it seemed like the network was very confident in the show. Initially, it only had a 13-episode order. But only a few weeks later after airing, the broadcaster gave Feds a full 22-episode season.

The spin-off of The Rookie stars Niecy Nash-Betts as Simone Clark, Frankie Faison as Christopher “Cutty” Clark, James Lesure as Carter Hope, Britt Robertson as Laura Stensen, Kevin Zegers as Brendon Acres, and Felix Solis as Special Agent Matthew Garza.
