Jason Statham is back on the big screen to take on more sea creatures in Meg 2: The TrenchBut is this summer shark movie appropriate for everyone in the family? Why is Meg 2 rated PG-13? Here’s what to expect.

As a huge fan of action star Jason Statham, I’d watch him face off against any person or creature. However, I’m still not sure Meg 2 is a movie I’ll be watching in theaters. I think I’ll wait for the streaming release. But whether you do the same or not, you still need to know if this movie will be a scary good time or give your young ones some serious nightmares.

The movie is a sequel to The Meg (2018) and follows Jonas Taylor (Statham) lead a research team to the deepest depths of the ocean. After a freak accident, the team is up against the legendary Megs, who they must outrun and outsmart if they want to survive.

Is the movie Meg 2: The Trench appropriate for kids?

Meg 2 is rated PG-13, which means it is not recommended for kids under 13-years-old. And even so, under parent supervision. Of course, parents know their kids best, so it’s up to you! Because, sometimes, what matters is WHY the movie is rated what it is.

The Jason Statham movie is rated PG-13 for brief suggestive material, action, violence, language, and bloody images. All in all, it’s rated for what you would expect from a shark movie. If you plan on watching this movie with a young kid who can’t stand blood, jump scares, or violence, I would have them sit this one out!

Will you be watching the movie in theaters or are you going to wait for the streaming releaseMeg 2: The Trench opens in theaters on Friday, Aug. 4. Along with Statham, Jing Wu, Li Bingbing, Able Wanamakok, Page Kennedy, and  Shuya Sophia Cai also star.
