Is Apple TV+ worth the Price?

The home of Ted Lasso is known for its quality television series and the fact that its exclusive Peanuts streaming deal has pulled holiday classics off air that had been running for decades (yes, we’re still bitter about that). But its still gaining a name for itself and, with loads of competition, it’s a platform that consumer’s consistently weigh whether they should include it in their budget or not. So let’s see what it has to offer.

How much does Apple TV+ cost?

For $6.99/month, you’ll get access to the streamer’s library of original content, its Peanuts collection, Friday Night Baseball on Apple TV+ which is season long coverage of weekend doubleheaders along with game highlights, expert analysis, access to classic games, and documentaries about the sport and its players. The 2023 MLS season also streams exclusively on the platform. You can access your iTunes through the Apple TV+ app making it possible to watch your rentals and movie purchases on other devices as well.

How many shows are on Apple TV+?

Apple TV+ has the smallest catalog on this list. They only have 135 shows, however, their high quality (23) and quality (50) series outpace their lower ranked ones (62). 54% of what’s on offer has been rated good or excellent. Per dollar, that’s 19 shows with 10 out of that 19 being high quality (3) or quality (7).

How many movies are on Apple TV+?

The streamer has even less movie options. There are 69 titles but at least the 19 high quality and 37 quality films far surpass the 13 that are mid-tier or worse. So that’s 81%, the highest percentage of all the streamers on this list. Per dollar, you get 10 movies: 3 high quality, 5 quality, and 2 lower rated films.

Verdict: If you’re sold out to Apple, spending the $6.99 a month may be fine with you. But if you’re not you should take a look at the original movies and shows Apple TV+ has on offer before making a decision. With such a limited catalog, comparatively smaller monthly additions, and a tiny collection of licensed titles, you’re not getting a lot of bang for your buck unless you find yourself interested in more than one or two of its prestige TV offerings.
