Jason Statham is no stranger to outlandish action movies. However, the new trailer for his latest, The Beekeeper, has people buzzing! Here’s what to know about this new wild action film due out in 2024!

Jason Statham shows no signs of slowing down as an action star. Since his breakout role in The Transporter, the tough English actor has been tops in the action world with franchises like The Expendables, The Meg and the Fast and Furious films. Now, he teams up with Suicide Squad director David Ayers for what may be his wildest movie yet.

In the upcoming movie, Statham plays Mr. Clay, a man who lives the quiet life of a beekeeper and keeps his head down. He works for a kind woman who ends up committing su****e after she loses her life savings in a phishing scam.

Clay targets the company behind the scam, who realize too late that they’re dealing with a highly trained government operative who won’t stop coming at them. Cue wild action and crazy stunts that only Statham can pull off, as he tries to get revenge.

The Beekeeper cast

Besides Statham, the movie also features Phylicia Rasahad as the neighbor whose death kicks the plot off. Jeremy Irons has a role as a mysterious figure, with Emmy Raver-Lampan as a cop hunting Statham’s character, Clay. Here’s the full cast list:

  • Jason Statham as Mr. Clay
  • Emmy Raver-Lampman
  • Josh Hutcherson
  • Bobby Naderi
  • Minnie Driver
  • Taylor James as Lazarus
  • Enzo Cilenti as Rico Anzalone
  • Amber Sienna
  • Phylicia Rashad
  • Jeremy Irons

Is honey flammable?

One part of the trailer shows Statham dowsing enemies in honey and then setting it on fire. One might think this is typical movie fiction, but according to Firefighter Insider, honey is indeed flammable. It has to do with the properties inside it and how fresh it is.

But not so fast! The temperature needed to ignite honey needs to be between 200 and 300 degrees Fahrenheit, and flammable and combustible are not the same thing. So unless Statham is also using kerosene, it’s not likely you can use honey to instantly create an inferno.

What is a beekeeper in the Jason Statham movie?

The film emphasizes that the “beekeeper” title isn’t just a guy who collects honey from bees. It’s the code name for operatives of a top-secret group who, as Statham puts it, “protect the hive. When the system is out of balance, I correct it.”

It’s unsure yet if this group is connected to the government or operates beyond it or just how big they are. It’s indicated that this isn’t the first time Clay has done work like this and bringing back his old skills. This hints at a much bigger storyline for the movie and the groundwork laid for a possible sequel of other “Beekeepers” aiding Statham.

Between the plot, the action, and Statham’s standing, it looks like The Beekeeper will be a wild adventure when it hits theaters next year. The movie is set to drop by Amazon MGM Studios on Jan. 12, 2024.
