It's official! Wild Cards has been greenlit for a season 2! The decision has been a long time coming as The CW had signaled that the network would like to see it back for another run. The series is a co-production with Canadian company CBC--hence why it's set in Vancouver.

Currently, it's unknown when the blue sky procedural will slide into CW's 2024-2025 schedule but it is expected to make its return next year. If things shake out the way they did at the top of 2024, we could be returned to Max and Ellis' adventures as early as January. Though, hopefully, this go around the drama will be airing on the same day in Canada and stateside. For those of us who are U.S. fans, dodging spoilers online was quite the feat since our northern counterparts got episodes a full week ahead of us.

There's a lot to unpack in Wild Cards season 2 so the good news of a renewal also came with word that the series would be expanding its episode count for this run. Instead of 10 episodes, it'll have 13, opening the door for more storylines, likely larger, more fulfilling arcs for side characters like Chief Li, Yates, and Simmons, and more room for the writers to play with Max and Ellis' arcs individually and together.

When we're dropped back with the duo, we may pick up where we left off. Season 1 ended with Max telling Ellis that she knew who murdered his brother. It was a shocking revelation, that we've yet to hear, and it's the kind of news that will go a long way to mending what broke between them. Remember, Max made sure everything was right in Ellis' world, but she did so knowing full well that she was about to abscond with the jewel they'd protected worth millions of dollars.

The only reason she came back was because of what she'd learned. That might be a hard pill to swallow for Ellis but it does speak to the feelings she has for him. In a second season, this will have to be explored. And, apparently, the two will be back doing case work together. Since their partnership was dissolved, it'll be interesting to see how they're thrown back into being a team.

Also, there's George to consider! He's still in prison (with a lesser sentence!), but he thought his daughter was going to be long gone. While he'll surely be happy to have her in his life, the idea that she came back for Ellis may lead him to worry that she'll get caught up in a bad situation working with the authorities unless it's as a means to an end.

We can't wait to find out what happens next on Wild Cards. Its season 2 premiere can't come fast enough. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote for more news and coverage!
