Video: Training Los Pollos Hermanos Employees With Gus Fring

The third season of Better Call Saul will include a familiar, and intimidating, face. That face will be Giancarlo Esposito’s, who will reprise his Breaking Bad role of fried chicken and methamphetamine magnate Gus Fring.

With his return, AMC has focused their promotion of Better Call Saul season three on Fring. The promotion has particularly dealt with Fring’s Los Pollos Hermanos restaurant chain. After opening several temporary locations for the restaurant, an “employee training” video has now been released. The video also alludes to the fact that Fring and his restaurant aren’t as innocent as they appear.

References!

-The phrase “I like to think I see things in people” is the first callback to Breaking Bad. The line is an exact quote from Fring during season four’s “Cornered.” However, its used here to motivate employees rather than Jesse Pinkman.

-The list of things that employees might be distracted by includes “your friends.” The -animation that goes along with this depicts Fring thinking about drinking with friends. However, the friend bares a resemblance to Don Eladio who Gus killed via a poisoned beverage. A voice can be heard saying “Salud,” which happens to be the name of the Breaking Bad episode where that takes place.

-Following “friends” on the list is, “your side business.” The inflection in Fring’s voice indicates he’s thinking of something sinister. Additionally, the animation depicts a chemistry set.

-Finally, as the cartoon breaks away, the intense Gus Fring that fans will recognize from Breaking Bad appears. His words, “someone is always watching,” reference the cameras he used to constantly monitor Walter White’s activity in the lab.

Overall, fans of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul should get a kick out of the video. The return of Gus Fring has been teased so much to this point that I assume he’s a major factor in season three of Better Call Saul. The question remains. Will we see a different Fring than the one on Breaking Bad?

Fans will find out April 10th when Better Call Saul returns on AMC.
