‘This Is Us’ season 2: Sylvester Stallone is ready to make us cry

Oscar-nominated actor Sylvester Stallone is joining the cast of ‘This Is Us,’ so get the tissues and the Rocky memories ready.
Rocky is preparing to go from Philly to Pittsburgh this fall.
The first season of This Is Us gained such a large following that actors who typically don’t appear on television are making the jump. Sylvester Stallone, who almost never makes appearances on television shows, is set to be a guest star in the second season of This Is Us.
The creative team behind This Is Us spoke at the TCA panel and announced that Sylvester Stallone would be joining the cast as a guest star in season two. So far it sounds like it’s just a one-episode appearance but there’s a chance for future appearances on the show based on his role.
From the description given, Stallone will be playing himself in a role that sees him act as a sort of father figure and role model for Kevin. The two will apparently star in a war movie together, brining back memories of Joey Tribbiani’s experience on Friends with Gary Oldman. Things will be a little more serious than that this time around, though.
As far as Stallone on television, the rarity of this should hammer home how special it is. His last acting role on television was 12 years ago in an episode of Las Vegas. Aside from two roles on television in 1975, this will be the fourth time in 42 years that Stallone has appeared in an acting role on television (not counting reality show appearances).
It’s not hard to see this becoming a recurring role. This also fits with Stallone’s recent turn from action movie star to wise old mentor, something we saw him do with his Rocky character in Creed. All signs point to his turn on This Is Us being something similar, and also something that could benefit Kevin a lot in the long run.
