The cast of This Is Us has already earned critical praise, and now their pocketbooks just got a whole lot fatter.

It didn’t take long for This Is Us to take over the world, and that is a streak that has no signs of slowing. From endless award nominations to the insane hype for a second season, there’s no stopping NBC’s best show.

While it seemed from the start like there was a lot of support for the show (we all remember the viral Facebook trailer), NBC is continuing to put its money where its mouth is. According to Variety, the network has handed each member of the core cast a bonus worth $250,000. To put this simply, the cast of the show just got paid for essentially being awesome.

Of course, there’s more to it than that. The cast of the show has been all over the place this year, from talk shows to (soon) awards shows.

There’s more to unpack here than simply feeling good for the actors who got paid. This is likely a strategic move by NBC for keeping everyone on This Is Us happy ahead of contract negotiations that will likely happen sooner rather than later. When a show hits like This Is Us has, the actors usually band together for higher pay. While a lovely gesture by NBC, this is very clearly a move to get out in front of any potential speed bumps that may lie ahead.

Shows like Friends and Big Bang Theory have seen cast members hold out for higher pay — and rightfully so. When a show gets big and the actors behind it are a big part of it, they naturally want a larger slice of the pie.

Not to get all soap-boxy, but the writers deserve this kind of treatment too. That’s not to take anything away from the actors who breathe life into these characters we love, but the creators of said characters deserve some serious appreciation and compensation as well.

All around, this is good news for everyone at This Is Us and seems to ensure the happiness will extend throughout this upcoming second season.
