Sterling K. Brown isn’t in the new Black Panther trailer, but that’s alright

If you’re looking for Sterling K. Brown in the new Black Panther trailer, you’re not going to find him.
This Is Us fans are all looking forward to seeing what the cast does outside of the show, as the Pearsons are a part of our lives like we never thought possible. Sterling K. Brown has cashed in the most on his This Is Us street cred, securing roles in two very high profile films.
The first one is Marshall, in which he is very much a part of the marketing campaign. His other role is in the Marvel film Black Panther, where he has been conspicuously absent.
Marvel released the second trailer for the film on Monday, and Brown isn’t in it. The actor also didn’t make an apperance in the first trailer either, which is both a real bummer yet totally awesome.
It’s a bummer that we have yet to see anything regarding Brown’s role in the film. Even those who aren’t familiar with This Is Us (yes, those people indeed exist) know Brown from his Emmy-winning role on The People vs. OJ, so it’s not as though this is somehow a big break. He’s an actor of immense talent that any film should put front and center in the marketing.
That’s why this is also very awesome.
The idea here is that Brown will have an important role in the film, one that we’re not supposed to see in the marketing. Right now Marvel is just selling hype (and it’s really working, FWIW) and that’s the most important thing. Brown, while an exciting actor, isn’t part of the hype theoretically because he’s part of the payoff. Once audiences buy in and see the film, Brown will be part of what makes the story everyone has bought into feel special.
That’s what he does. That’s why he’s an award-winning actor and a talent that everyone seemingly wants to work with. Here’s to hoping that his character in Black Panther remains mysterious until we finally get to see him on screen.
