Here’s the official NBC synopsis (and promo video) for This Is Us season 2 episode 5, “Brothers.”

This Is Us season 2 episode 5 “Brothers” airs Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 9 p.m. ET — on NBC and elsewhere online — and based on the promo video and the synopsis, it looks like it’s going to be a heavy one.

Here’s what we know and/or can piece together.

Per NBC:

"Kate surprises Toby at work. Kevin and Randall attend a charity fundraiser for Sophie’s hospital. Jack takes the boys on a camping trip, leaving Rebecca to deal with some unexpected news."

Pair that, then, with the promo video.

And let’s break it down.

Kate surprises Toby at work: That appears to pair up with her telling him she’s pregnant in the clip. Two questions: Do we even know what Toby does for work? Why, how, was telling him at work the best time/place to do so? She’s kept it secret long enough you would think it could wait until he got home.

Kevin and Randall attend a charity fundraiser for Sophie’s hospital: The Randall story here seems to be that Deja comes along! Her hair is looking cute again, so that’s promising, but Beth does press Randall, asking whether he thinks Deja is ready. And we all know Beth is always right. As for Kevin, we seem to be barrelling toward opioid addiction as Kevin explains on the phone that he knows his prescription has already been filled once, but “can’t you help a guy when he’s in pain?”

Jack takes the boys on a camping trip: Not really addressed in the promo video but promotional stills show Milo Ventimiglia in shorts, which is just a delight.

…leaving Rebecca to deal with some unexpected news: Jack’s dad is dying! And she’s introducing herself to him! Because they’ve never met! This isn’t going to end well.
