This season on This is Us Randall and Beth Pearson decided to take in a foster child named Deja, who seems to need them as much as they wanted her.

During Season 2, Randall and Beth talked about adopting but instead made the choice to become foster parents to an older child. They ended up bringing Deja into their home, and they are already bonding with her.

Susan Kelechi Watson of This Is Us spoke out Essence and talked about Beth and Randall taking in Deja. She shared that she loves that Beth was able to do this and have a child without totally starting over with an infant, but there is that realization that someday Deja might not be there. She went on to share how hard this can be.

"“People throughout the United States are doing it and we have feedback from those people. but it’s not the easiest thing to open your home to a child and not know whether or not they are going to be there with you or what the circumstances are going to be. Not knowing the circumstances they’d been left in, which is why I love it. I love that it’s not easy. It’s not the easy choice.”"

One thing she loves about the way that this is going is that they are showing both sides of it. Everyone is going to get to see how this is for Randall and Beth, but they will also get to see how things are for Deja’s mom being in jail. She shared that you can see Beth wants what is best for Deja. Of course, she can’t share if Deja will stick around in the Pearson home once her mom gets out of jail, but it does sound like she might know.
