5. The Writing

You might already know that Michael Schur and Daniel J. Goor created and executive produced Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but they are only two minds in the writing room. This writing room pulls deep. It boasts female and male writers from other series like Master of None, Rick and Morty, Key and Peele, Monsters University, Broad City, Girls, and Transparent. As funny as the cast may be, it is the writing that has given us so many great moments.

Every member of the cast gets to deliver some the best one-liners in comedic TV today and the episode openers are always memorable bits. If you like the video above, then you’ll love this series. It is just a snippet of the genius that goes into each episode. We’ll get into the cast and their diversity later, but it is clear from the writing that there is an emphasis on not just creating stereotypical characters that line up with their gender or ethnic expectations. Not only do these comedic writers have to come up with funny jokes; they also have to tell a proper police story every week.
