The Celebrity Big Brother cast isn’t playing for charity. Instead, the 11 houseguests are competing for a cash prize for themselves. This news was just revealed by CBS in a press release about the upcoming season. As for the prize that is on the line, they are competing for $250,000 this winter.

The typical prize for winning a season of Big Brother is $500,000. With the shortened schedule for Celebrity Big Brother, though, it’s understandable why they are playing for a smaller prize. What may surprise some viewers is that the celebrities aren’t doing it for charity.

Will cash prize incentivize Celebrity Big Brother cast?

With the announcement that a cash prize is on the line, this could mean that the celebrities play very hard to win the game this season. It won’t just be a vacation in the Big Brother house for these 11 celebrities, as money tends to change everything. Which houseguest will do what it takes to win the $250,000 prize?

The full cast was announced Sunday night (January 28), giving fans a chance to start picking out their favorites. On Monday (January 29), host Julie Chen was also on the Big Brother Facebook page answering questions about the cast. It gave some insight into what fans should expect to see this season. Hint: drama.

Not much longer until season premiere

The clock is ticking down on the Big Brother: Celebrity Edition season premiere. Beginning on February 7, viewers are certainly going to get their fill of these 11 celebrities. In order to get it down to the final houseguests competing for the $250,000 prize, there will have to be a number of eviction ceremonies taking place each week. It also shouldn’t be surprising if the production team decided to send someone packing during the first episode. That would definitely be an interesting way to open the first U.S. season of Celebrity Big Brother.
