This Is Us said goodbye to Jack Pearson with a heartbreaking funeral and return to his favorite tree. Here are five moments that brought the tears.

After the big Super Bowl episode, This Is Us reverted right back into its old tricks two days later without so much as 48 hours to recover from learning Jack’s cause of death. Hey, recovery time is overrated. Tuesday night’s all-new episode picked up right where we left off and headed to Jack’s funeral for the same amount of tears but double the heartbreak.

“The Car” finds the Pearson family through their best and worst times in the family car, from purchasing the brand-new vehicle at the dealership to driving it to say goodbye to Jack. Never could you have imagined that so many memories and life-altering trips take place on the four wheels of the car that takes you from point A to point B, but This Is Us finds deep meaning and healing in even the most mundane items. These are the five moments that made us cry!

1. How the Wagoneer was won.

Sure, there have been plenty of moments more worthy of tears than Jack Pearson buying a car, but that doesn’t mean that watching Jack Pearson buy car won’t make our eyes misty. The guy had his downfalls but showering his family with love and care wasn’t one of them. When he realizes the Big Three love the brand new car, he works his magic to make it happen. Get you a guy who can Jedi mind trick a car salesman with an emotional appeal.

2. Kevin and Randall walk home.

We know that Kevin and Randall still have their issues to this day. They’re competitive on runs, they fight on the street in New York City, and they can barely share a meal together one-on-one without it being awkward. But their issues date way back to childhood and especially adolescence. When Jack teaches Randall to drive, Kevin can’t keep his comments to himself in the backseat. One near accident later and Jack’s making the boys walk home. Still, the lesson is a hard one to learn.

3. Jack and Kate talk Alanis and The Boss.

Whenever Jack has his heart-to-hearts with Kate, you should have your tissues on standby. There’s never going to be a scene between father and daughter that won’t make your heart melt and eyes flood. In this instance, Jack catches Kate ditching school to see Alanis Morissette, but rather than punishing her, he listens to her passion for music and shares his own thoughts on Bruce Springsteen. And let this break your heart: He buys the family Springsteen tickets before his death.

4. Rebecca gets a pep talk from Dr. K.

Even though it threatened to destroy us, it was time for Rebecca and Dr. K to share a moment like he and Jack did so many times. During a break from Jack’s funeral reception, Rebecca gets some fresh air and runs into Dr. K outside, who proceeds to relate to her on a level that only Dr. K can seem to. He hits her with the famous lemon quote, but amends it to say: “You made one of the sweetest damn pitchers of lemonade I ever saw.”

5. Jack returns to his tree.

Finally, we get the full story of how Jack’s tree became Jack’s tree: Rebecca thought she could have cancer, and while they waited for the doctor to call, they sat by a tree. Jack claimed it was special, but it was the nearest to a payphone. That Jack! After the funeral, Rebecca and the Big Three return to the tree to spread some of his ashes before getting back on the road to attend the Springsteen concert. And you know what? Rebecca faced her fear of bridges on her own. Lemonade.
