WCKD may as well have been commanded by Darth Vader.

From the beginning it’s pretty clear nobody at WCKD has the ability to shoot a weapon. They may as well be nearsighted Stormtroopers.

In one scene, the gang makes a daring train rescue. In many ways, it’s like the epic Fast Five scene where they snatched cars with some random gangsters. Of course, rather than diving off a car into a body of water 1000ft. below and inexplicably surviving, the Maze Runner crew engages in a gun fight with WCKD guards. (Spoiler!) They fail to rescue Minho.

Consequently, they stage a rescue mission at a massive research facility at a later point. More on the ridiculousness of the facility later. Their escape would completely ruin the WCKD cure research. Bullets naturally fly. Despite the fact that Thomas eventually takes a bullet, it’s still roughly one bullet out of a couple hundred.

It’s understandable they wanted to save cast-members, but more than one was expendable. Seeing a fatality or two would have helped quite a bit.
