Show: Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Seasons it aired: 7 seasons, 1990-2000

Why Are You Afraid of the Dark? should be rebooted: The horror anthology series did receive a short-lived revival that aired on SNICK from 1999 to 2000, but it deserves better. So why should it be rebooted yet again if it didn’t work out the last time? We’re now ready for it. After 18 years, a lot has changed. We crave nostalgia, particularly millennials!

Are you Afraid of the Dark? follows a group of teens who call themselves “The Midnight Society.” The friends all gather weekly to share scary stories in the woods. Who even goes to the woods for fun anymore? This setting would be even more frightening today. Each week was different, some stories would wrap up on a good note, while others haunted us all the way until morning the next day. The series always found a way to do horror right, because it’s fun to be scared. Nowadays, there’s really no horror show out there that targets a young audience. Hits like American Horror Story are for mature audiences, and while Netflix’s Stranger Things is amazing and nostalgia-packed, we still need something that’s stories-by-the-campfire basic.
