Chrissy Metz’s movie The Impossible gets a superhero costar: Find out who he is!

Luke Cage star Mike Colter will join This Is Us standout Chrissy Metz in the faith-based drama film The Impossible, which will also make you cry.
Last month, we let you in on a little secret: 2018 is the Year of Chrissy Metz. Look, we don’t make the rules, we simply abide by them. With all of the incredible things Metz has going on behind the scenes of This Is Us, she makes it easy to grant her an entire shine. Before she sets off on tour for her first book called This Is Me, Metz will begin filming her first movie with a major Netflix star.
The Impossible finds Chrissy Metz in the leading role of her film debut, and Deadline reports the latest casting news for the project. The faith-based flick has locked down its next co-lead as Marvel’s Luke Cage star Mike Colter climbs aboard the movie in a pivotal role. So, what’s the movie about, and what can we expect from the superhero starring opposite the This Is Us newcomer?
Based on Joyce Smith’s novel The Impossible: The Miraculous Story of a Mother’s Faith and Her Child’s Resurrection, which itself is based on Smith’s own true story, the film centers on the aftermath of Smith’s (Chrissy Metz) 14-year-old-son falling into a frozen lake in Michigan. Although her son was pronounced lifeless, Smith remained by his side and prayed until he came back to life.
Putting his superhero background to good use, Mike Colter will portray Tommy Shrine, the firefighter who saves Smith’s son from the icy lake. Tommy hears a voice instructing him where to look for the young boy, and the encounter with the wonderful miracle will make a believer out of this doubter. Yeah, This Is Us fans will want to bring their leftover tissues to the theater for this one.
