NBC renews Good Girls for second season
By Tyde Dermody
NBC has made it’s first freshman series renewal, the critically-acclaimed crime dramedy Good Girls.
The dark dramatic-comedy follows three struggling best friends (Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman and Retta) who decide to rob a grocery store and unwittingly become embroiled in a drug ring. Upon it’s premiere in February, we gave the show a glowing recommendation.
Ratings for the show have been impressive from the start. NBC reports a season average of 6.1 Million viewers overall which is enough to put Good Girls ahead of the other network’s programming airing in the same time slot.
This news is especially exciting for series creator Jenna Bans whose previous created shows (Off The Map and The Family – both at ABC) were unable to make it past their first seasons. It seems the switch to NBC was a good fit for Bans as she now gets to move forward with a second season.

Jenna Bans spoke to TVLine prior to the renewal announcement, where she shared a little bit of information about what fans can expect from the now-official second season:
"“We’re pretty excited about the places we’re taking these three women. It’s a darkly funny mix of the unexpected and also certain things our audience seems to be craving.”"
What about NBC’s other freshman shows?
NBC has yet to renew or cancel any of it’s other freshman series. Dramas Rise and The Brave as well as comedies Champions and A.P Bio still remain on the bubble. At this point, some feel that Good Girls may be the only new show that NBC decides to continue with. It is worth noting, however, that these shows still have a shot as none of them have been cancelled.
