How could Gabby Dawson leave Chicago Fire?

Monica Raymund is officially leaving Chicago Fire after six seasons. Now it’s time to look at how her character Gabby could leave the firehouse and what it will mean for Casey.

Chicago Fire Season 7 will be one paramedic down. Gabby Dawson is leaving, as Monica Raymund has officially not signed on for another year. This has left us with a bunch of questions surrounding Gabby and Casey. What does this mean for Dawsey and how will Gabby leave the firehouse?

There’s also a question about who will replace her as the main focus out of the women in the firehouse moving forward. However, that’s a whole separate article and I’ll move onto that soon.

Dawsey officially over?

It certainly looks like it’s going to be over for Dawsey. After all those years of fighting for them, cheering when they married in the 100th episode, and wishing for them to finally start that family together, we’ll likely see them go their separate ways. After all, Jesse Spencer isn’t leaving.

The Chicago Fire Season 6 finale gave the show an easy way to write Gabby out, similar to the way Chicago P.D. had a very easy way for Sophia Bush’s Erin Lindsay to walk away. At the very end, Gabby got an offer to go on a humanitarian mission in Puerto Rico. She could go with other volunteer paramedics to help in the hurricane-torn country. While she turned it down at first, after an argument with Casey, she started to consider it.

This would certainly be better for the fans. We don’t want to see Casey suffer more heartbreak than he already has. With the current issues in their relationship, especially with Gabby never quite thinking about Casey’s thoughts on matters that affect them both, this would be the perfect way to bring this story to an end. It keeps it open so that if Raymund wanted to return or Spencer walked away from the show in the future, the two could find their way back to each other.

Will we get to say goodbye to Gabby?

If Raymund isn’t signing on for another season of Chicago Fire, was the Season 6 finale the last we’d get to see of her? When it came to P.D., we never got to see Lindsay walk away. The Season 4 finale acted as her exit.

Gabby’s exit like this doesn’t give the fans a chance to say goodbye. Nor do we see how Dawsey comes to an end. Even just a short snippet at the start of the next season that works as a flashback or something would be good enough right now. It will just seem a little empty just hearing Casey’s side of the story; almost like the story isn’t finished for us.
