Ryan Edwards and Mackenzie are leaving Teen Mom OG over addiction issues

Ryan Edwards, Maci Bookout’s ex-boyfriend, and his wife are saying goodbye to Teen Mom OG as they don’t agree with producers’ ideas for a storyline.
Ryan Edwards wasn’t happy about his portrayal on previous seasons of Teen Mom OG. While filming, he claimed he was sober but when he was spotted passing out behind the wheel, it was clear that he was battling something. Rather than get him help, Mackenzie Edwards chose to remove the cameras from the car and she didn’t want to talk about their issues. She was later accused of enabling his drug use, as they got married without him seeking help.
He later went to rehab but came back just weeks later. The issue continued to grow, as Maci Bookout filed a protection order against herself and her family, as Ryan Edwards had supposedly threatened to hurt her. Now, Ryan and Mackenzie have had enough and they are saying goodbye to Teen Mom OG. Apparently, they are blaming MTV for their exit, as they feel that MTV only wants to film certain things in their lives. They spoke out about their decision and PEOPLE magazine has the scoop.

“We’re not returning to Teen Mom this season. The network told us they don’t want to show Ryan as a recovering addict,” Mackenzie revealed, adding that MTV “did want to enter a contract with our unborn baby and have the baby film with Ryan’s parents so it would look like someone else is raising it.”
“They want to want to talk about us but they don’t want to pay us and film us,” Ryan added, saying that Maci has been firm about rehab, adding “she’s not going to film unless I enter rehab again and quit the show.”

It sounds like MTV wants to continue following Ryan and Mackenzie, but they don’t want to pay them. Perhaps the network doesn’t want to give Ryan so much money, giving him funds for drugs if he does relapse. This is something that MTV has been criticized over, as the network has paid out so much money that the network has been accused of fueling addictions.
