Lord of the Rings Amazon prequel series has Star Trek 4 writers on board
By Tony Smejek
Star Trek 4 writers selected to develop the Lord of the Rings Amazon series prequel. It’ll be interesting how these two think tanks will traverse sci-fi to fantasy.
Lord of the Rings fans may likely rejoice that Star Trek 4 writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay will be taking the helm of the development process of the Amazon prequel series into their hands, according to The One Ring. Considering the world of Middle-earth is phenomenally big, with a time frame that expands through the ages, there’s probably no lack of imagination that goes beyond what J.R.R. Tolkien had launched with The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
Personally, I had the same reaction when Game of Thrones’ producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were set to take on further Lucasfilm movies.
JD Payne and Patrick McKay have a good amount of projects on their plate already, so this seems to reinforce their abilities to take on such an iconic project. They expressed their take on moving forward with the Amazon series.

"“The rich world that J.R.R. Tolkien created is filled with majesty and heart, wisdom and complexity. We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Amazon to bring it to life anew. We feel like Frodo, setting out from the Shire, with a great responsibility in our care — it is the beginning of the adventure of a lifetime.”"
Back in May, The Nerdist reported a tweet via The One Ring social media Twitter account that The Lord of the Rings prequel series will focus its first season on a younger Aragorn. This is intriguing because at the end of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Thranduil told his son Legolas to connect with Strider, who is the son of Arathorn, who’s later known as Aragorn.
That said, would you think The Lord of the Rings movies, specifically The Fellowship of the Ring, will connect with the conclusion of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in some fashion? Will we see then witness the meeting of Legolas and Aragorn on the Amazon series? Sound off in the comments!
