After months of anticipation, Disney Channel has released the first trailer for its new animated series Star Wars Resistance.

On Aug. 17, Disney Channel the first trailer for its forthcoming animated series, Star Wars Resistance, which was announced back in April. Developed by Star Wars Rebels helmer Dave Filoni, the show will be set a few years before Star Wars: The Force Awakens and will follow Resistance pilot named Kazuda Xiono (Christopher Sean.)

In addition to dropping the series’ first trailer, Disney Channel has also revealed some key details about the show’s premise and cast via a press release. In the show’s hour-long series premiere, entitled “The Recruit,” Xiono will be tasked with a dangerous top-secret mission by Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac.)  While posing as a mechanic on a Resistance refueling ship called The Colossus, Kaz must also rout out a First Order spy.

The Colossus is commanded by Jarek Yeager (Scott Lawrence), an old friend of Dameron’s and an experienced resistance fighter pilot. The ship’s crew will include Tam Ryvora (Suzie McGrath), Neeku Vozo (Josh Brener) and that Astromech named Bucket. Also, Bobby Moynihan and Jim Rash will serve as the ship’s comic relief, a bickering odd couple called Orka and Flix respectively.

Though focused on new characters, existing Star Wars stalwarts will also be cropping up on the series. Dameron’s trust droid partner BB-88 will be on hand. As well Gwendolyn Christie’s iconic but underdeveloped Captain Phasma. General Leia Organa will also be part of the series and will be voiced by Rachel Butera

Although Star Wars Resistance won’t be premiering until October, the film makes the show look very appealing. Primarily because the series will delve into the largely uncovered period of time between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. It also looks to be avoiding Jedi/Sith intrigue in favor of a more ground-level view of the Resistance/First Order conflict. And although lighter in tone, the show looks to be a spiritual sequel to Star Wars Rebels in terms of storytelling style and characterization.

Also, the show looks really good. Art directed by long-time franchise concept designer Amy Beth Christenson, Resistance looks to fuse traditional Star Wars iconography with a cel-shaded anime-inspired look. And judging by the aerial combat scenes featured in the trailer, the program looks to be the most visually dynamic Lucasfilm Animation series since Genndy Tartakovsky’s Star Wars: Clone Wars.
