Here is how ABC will handle the loss of Roseanne in The Conners
By John Dotson
After the firing of Roseanne from the highly watched revival of ABC’s hit show, we now have details about the possible fate of the character in The Conners.
We all know the highly controversial events from months back regarding Roseanne Barr. After a very problematic Tweet by the actress, ABC –which is also owned by Disney made the decision to continue the highly rated show without her. This prompted a lot of discussion about what was going to be done about the character. Well, after months of waiting, fans might finally have an answer.
According to an interview with actor John Goodman, the Roseanne character will, in fact, be killed off in the upcoming spin-off The Conners. When asked about how his character’s demeanor will be in the spin-off he says, “It’s an unknown. I guess he’ll be mopey and sad because his wife’s dead.”
John Goodman’s response to the character being killed off makes one wonder, how does the cast feel about doing a spinoff without its namesake character? Unlike say the Guardians of the Galaxy cast and their outspoken nature towards James Gunn firing, it appears Goodman and the others have chosen to move forward with little hesitation.
How will the character die? He does not say but this is the most clear-cut answer we have seen so far. Some of this may not be that shocking considering it would be hard to explain her absence without a permanent solution to fit the narrative. Still, the decision is probably going to upset some of the most devoted fans of the show.
The spin-off The Conners will have all the supporting players back on-board including Sara Gilbert, Michael Fishman, Laurie Metcalf, as well as John Goodman. It was also reported months back that the show might focus specifically on Sara Gilbert’s character Darlene. We’ll find out everything for sure when The Conners returns to television in October.
