Mel Gibson seeks Homer out for advice on his new movie.

The Simpsons test drive an electronic car in exchange for a special prize. The prize turns out to be tickets to the screening of Mel Gibson’s new movie. As Marge is a huge fan of his, she is instantly thrilled.

But since the movie turns out to be a remake of Jimmy Stewart’s Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Homer is not happy with it. But everyone else enjoys the movie and writes positive reviews on comment cards. Going through audience comments, Mel Gibson (playing himself in a cameo) is shocked to see nothing but good reviews and frantically sees if he can find any naysayers. Finding Homer’s negative opinion, he is relieved, as that means Homer was the only one with the guts to say what he actually thought.

Mel immediately goes to the Simpson residence and encounters an angry Homer. Aside from the fact that he hated the movie, Homer doesn’t like Marge’s attraction to him. But this all changes when Mel asks Homer for help in making a movie. Homer agrees and promptly brings the entire Simpson family to Hollywood.

While the rest of the family goes sight-seeing, Homer immediately begins giving Mel a bunch of crazy ideas to put into the movie. Mel doesn’t understand Homer’s ideas at first, but agrees to reshoot the ending and show it to some studio executives. Unsurprisingly, the new ending involves a lot more violence, gunfire, and explosions that match some of Mel Gibson’s other movies.

While Homer and Mel enjoyed it, the studio executives are appalled. They eventually compare it to The Godfather Part III (which they admit is going to far and walk back) and threaten to throw the film away. But Mel snatches it back and runs away in a golf cart with Homer along for the ride. When the golf cart crashes, they two men commandeer a car from The Road Warrior (one of Mel Gibson’s Mad Max movies) and borrowing an idea from Braveheart,  moon the executives so they stop the car out of disgust.

Homer and Mel’s film eventually premieres in Springfield and everyone hates it, including Jimmy Stewart’s granddaughter who threatens to sue them. Homer apologies to Mel, but the actor doesn’t mind that people hate it. But when Homer tries pitching him more awful movie ideas, Mel throws him out of his limo.
