It’s always interesting to see what someone’s favorite characters on a show are. Here’s a look at Lisa Simpson, who is Matt Groening’s favorite member of the Simpson family.

The number of characters that make up the fictional world of The Simpsons is massive. But after being on the air for 30 years that is to be expected. But just like with fans, the show’s creators also have their favorite characters. Interestingly enough, Matt Groening’s favorite member of Springfield’s favorite family is also the smartest. That’s right, Lisa Simpson is apparently Matt’s favorite member of the family.

Even more interesting is his rationale, which is rooted in her intelligence and the fact that she will be the one to break out of Springfield and be someone. Which is a very good point. It’s also interesting to note that as a very intelligent person, Lisa is not blind to the flaws in her family members and often has to be the voice of reason. But that doesn’t mean she cares about them any less.

Quite the opposite in fact, as there are numerous examples where she goes out of her way to help her family. Along with Marge, Lisa is the family member who is usually trying to help the Simpsons become better people. Her first word (as shown in the episode “Lisa’s First Word”) was famously “Bart!” even though young Bart hated Lisa when she was born.

The two siblings are also a satire of the typical sitcom kids and the inevitable rivalry that happens where you have one incredibly accomplished child, while the other is typically more rebellious and may even be the black sheep of the family. But what makes their dynamic unique is that even though Bart’s the troublemaker, Lisa is the one who’s more out-of-place in the family.

Lisa Simpson is a great character because she shows that you’re always your own person, no matter what your family is like.
