Engine 51 gets a new lieutenant in Chicago Fire Season 7, Episode 3. Check out who it is and the lengths Severide will go to so he can get the truth.

Chicago Fire Season 7 jumped straight back into the main story. Of course, that main story is all about Gorsch. We knew he was going to cause problems and he’ll stick his nose in more after the events at the end of “Thirty Percent Sleight of Hand.”

To kick the episode off, Lieutenant Dedrickson says that he’s coming up for retirement next month and that means someone else is needed for Engine 51. Who would it be? Gorsch has a suggestion, who turns out to be Gorsch’s brother-in-law. Well, of course! Do you really think Boden is going to promote the brother-in-law just to play friends?

Of course not! However, there’s an episode of call outs before that’s decided upon.

One of those callouts is the car accident from the sneak peek. The father, Mark, shares that his son Mason is still trapped in the car. Fortunately, the firefighters are able to free the son and both head off to Chicago Med and this is when the real fun begins.

Mason’s mom turns up and claims that Mark drove the car off the overpass on purpose. Severide decides to go searching for any signs that he did, especially when Mark says that he saw a deer, swerved, and drove off the bridge by accident. Fortunately, Severide and Stella (who is currently on desk duty for her first shift back from her op) find a dead deer and realize that Mark really is telling the truth.

Meanwhile, Mouch is trying to sell the tickets for the CFD barbeque. Only one person from Engine 37 hasn’t opted for a ticket and it’s the candidate who is now floating because of a bad review. I get the feeling this candidate is going to show up later at Firehouse 51 for some reason, just the way he and Mouch have bonded.

It’s at the BBQ that Boden shares who he has decided to promote to lieutenant of Engine 51. Sure enough, it’s Herrmann. After years of being a lieutenant, he’s finally getting his chance to lead. Gorsch is unhappy and it’s clear he’s going to make a big deal about this, but as a Chicago Fire fan, I’m happy to see Herrmann finally get the promotion he deserves. It’s about damn time!

Next. One Chicago crossover recap: Why was the apartment fire set?. dark

What trouble do you think Gorsch is going to cause the firehouse? What do you think about Herrmann being promoted? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
