Marge Simpson: The Simpsons character who is just like the audience

While Marge Simpson is one of the most iconic TV moms ever, she is also the character on The Simpsons who viewers can relate to the most.

To put it simply, Marge Simpson is what keeps the Simpsons together as a family. Without her, the trouble that her husband and kids would get into is unthinkable. Which is why she spends virtually every waking moment attending to them. While being a wife and mother is difficult under the best of circumstances, in Marge’s case those duties are endless. In addition to the usual tasks of cooking and cleaning, she tries to get Homer to live better, keeps a close eye on Bart, and makes sure to praise Lisa and her accomplishments.

But that’s not to say she turns a  blind eye when it comes to bad behavior. Marge knows better than anyone the flaws and shortcomings of every single member of the Simpson family. But that just means she tries all the more harder to help them become the best people they can be. She cares about them deeply, but she wants them to strive to be better.

The same goes for most of the other people in Springfield. Marge knows their flaws, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t like them or want what’s best for them. Quite the opposite in fact. She’s always trying to help everyone grow as people because she knows that even though they may struggle at times, they are still people you can find things to like about and relate to.

Because of this awareness, Marge is like anyone who regularly watches The Simpsons. She loves her family and deeply cares about the people of Springfield, but understands that they have shortcomings and wants to see them grow as people. Like Marge, viewers also enjoy seeing the various characters trying to achieve something positive. It’s no coincidence that the show’s best episodes are typically both funny and heartfelt at the same time.
